A British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship Project
If you conduct or know of religious, spiritual or sacred rituals in a temporary or permanent space (or are part of an organisation that does so), which is typically accessible to the public, I would be very interested to photograph the space and its set-up. No humans will be photographed, unless you would like a photograph of yourself in that space for your own personal use :)
Examples of spaces I am very interested in photographing include, but are not limited to Temples, Shrines, Meditation spaces, Seance spaces, Tarot Card readings (even those set up temporarily for a reading), or historical spaces in which something spiritual might have taken place, e.g. healing wells.

frequently asked questions
Why might I be interested in taking part?
You are an individual who is part of a publicly accessible religious or spiritual space and has a role in maintaining that, space or can give access to the Principal Investigator (me)to observe and photograph the space (i.e. you are a gatekeeper to the space).
Do I have to take part?
Participation is voluntary and you are free to withdraw permission for me to observe and photograph the space at anytime, without explanation, and without incurring a disadvantage.
What will happen if I take part?
If you grant permission, I (the principal investigator) will spend 30 minutes to 1 hour observing the spaces you have given me permission to access, and will take a number of photographs and 360 degree images of the space. I am happy to provide you with a copy of these photographs.
Are there any risks in taking part?
There are no risks in taking part in this research.
Are there any benefits in taking part?
There are no monetary benefits to taking part, although your participation will significantly help us to understand the richness of the spiritual landscape in North England.
