Is our society becoming more secular, or are we simply overlooking things and spaces that have a spiritual character?
Visually, the United Kingdom’s religious landscape is still overwhelmingly perceived to be Christian – seen in the form of churches and cathedrals. This perception belies a rich and diverse range of religious, spiritual and sacred spaces that intertwine with everyday life, but are often hidden in plain sight.
This exhibition is about such hidden and overlooked spaces. It seeks to visualise, through a practice of photographic methods and ethnography, the many ways in which different spiritual and/or religious beliefs are expressed, performed and/or materialised into physical and lived spaces and practices in England’s North.
You are cordially invited to the Launch Event at the Victoria Gallery and Museum on Ashton Street, Liverpool, L69 3DR from 4pm to 6pm. There will be an introductory talk by Terence Heng, followed by viewings of the work in Gallery 5. Admission is free.
